Are soy candles better?
If you're wondering if soy candles are better than other candles, the short answer is "Yes."
Of course, we may be biased because we make soy wax candles, but trust us, we did our research before learning how to make soy candles and starting our handmade soy candle business in Latvia. So you could say we know what we're talking about ;)
Soy wax candles
Soy wax is a plant-based wax. Soybeans are a renewable resource, so soy candles are a more environmentally friendly alternative to paraffin candles.
Also, soy wax is biodegradable, so if you use soy wax candles, you don't have to feel bad about throwing away the soy wax as soon as the smell is gone (which lasts much longer in melting soy wax than in paraffin candles!).
Candles without paraffin
Aside from the environmental aspects, soy candles are also better for your health. Paraffin wax is a by-product of petroleum, and paraffin candles produce large amounts of petrocarbon soot when they burn. Paraffin candles also contain several known cancer-causing compounds that end up polluting your indoor air when they burn.
A clean burning candle
Infused with natural soy wax, all soy wax candles produced by MANILUX can be considered much more natural candles than paraffin candles. They do not produce petroleum soot when burned and do not contain the "toxic air agents" identified in paraffin candles.
Are soy suppositories safe?
So does this mean soy suppositories are safe? Yes and no - there are other things that you should pay attention to. Just because a candle says "soy" on the label doesn't mean it's automatically the best or safest candle. Pay attention, for example, does the label say "soy wax candle" or "soy wax mixture"?
The soy wax blend still could (and often does) contain paraffin because it's a cheaper candle for companies. If you want the best burning candle, avoid these blends.
You also want a soy candle with a cotton wick or another type of wick without lead or other harmful metals in it. For example, MANILUX uses an ECO wick made of cotton braided with thin paper threads. I love working with these wicks when I'm making candles and they really help create a clean burn that lasts and uses up every bit of soy wax in the container.
Finally, there is the matter of scent and what goes into making the best scented candles in the world. The question of fragrance oils and essential oils warrants its own blog post! So for now I'll just say that not all scented candles are created equal. If you get a headache when you walk into a candle shop, there's probably a reason!
